Marks and Spencer has hired a former Cath Kidston executive to be its new head of childrenswear buying. Michelle Ojulah is joining the British department store group on 25 June.

She was most recently head of Kids and Print at Cath Kidston, a role she held from December 2011. There, she was responsible for buying, product development, and design for all categories within the kids department, as well as managing print design.

Her career experience also includes a period as a buyer at George at Asda, and a role as senior buyer at clothing brand Boden, where she oversaw the Mini Boden brand and launched the Johnnie B teen brand.

At Marks & Spencer, Ojulah will replace Carla Paterson, who is transferring to the company’s menswear department.

A spokesperson said: “M&S clothing is transforming and we now have the right leadership team in place to get on and deliver change.

“We’re excited that Michelle is joining to bolster our kidswear team. She brings a track record of success in an area that’s a real focus for us as we work to become more relevant for busy mums and dads”.
