Strong prints and dazzling embellishments come to life in River Island’s latest designer collaboration with Holly Fulton, marking the final iteration in its Design Forum series.

The 13-piece party wear edit draws inspiration from ‘party girls through the ages’, from 1920s English socialite Barbara ‘Baba’ Beaton to Kate Moss in the 90s – ‘all high on life and champagne’, says River Island.

Intricacy, attention to detail and heavy embellishments make the collection stand out, and reflect the aesthetic Fulton is famous for.

River Island describes the edit as a ‘sensational finale’ for its Design Forum series, which has promoted 11 designers and artists through collaboration since its creation in 2012.

Previous collaborators have included Lou Dalton, Eudon Choi, Baartmans & Siegel, Blood Brother and Sibling. The British Fashion Council-supported initiative provided a platform for one-off designer collections at high street prices.

It remains unclear why the British fashion chain decided to stop the programme.

Born in Edinburgh, Holly Fulton launched her eponymous label in 2009 and has received several accolades throughout her career including a British Fashion Award, ELLE New Designer and several Scottish Fashion Awards. She was also named Innovator of the Year 2016 at the 11th Annual Scottish Fashion Awards.

Alongside her director role, she was appointed as head of fashion at the Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts at the end of last year.

The Holly Fulton x River Island collection launched in line with London Fashion Week, with prices from £25 to £300.
