Dior Saddle bags, 90s nostalgia and bright colors dominate street style predictions for fashion month

Published
Sep 6, 2018

Global fashion search platform Lyst has released a forecast listing 12 street style trends predicted to shine through during fashion month, with Dior Saddle bags set up for a strong season, along with throwback jewelry and vivid colors.

Scandi brand Ganni currently boasts the most viewed jumpsuit on Lyst - Instagram: @ganni

Lyst, which based its forecast on the analysis of search data over the past three months, reported that Dior Saddle bags have seen a stratospheric surge in popularity in the run-up to fashion month, with searches for the coveted accessory rising close to 1,000% in the last thirty days alone.

Searches for Prada neon clutches also increased 59% in the last two months, with the bag having proved particularly popular at August’s Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Indeed, bright colors were a general trend in Lyst’s report, with popular apparel pieces increasingly being searched in bolder shades. Searches for slip dresses in “pink”, “yellow” and “red” have increased 138% collectively, while jumpsuits – which have hit a record high in searches over the past month – have seen a spike of interest for bright colors in the last week, with a hot pink Ganni model currently holding the title of the most viewed jumpsuit on the platform.

The current 90s revival trend was also reflected in Lyst’s data, with shell necklaces registering a 40% rise in searches over the last two months, while searches for anklets have more than tripled compared to the previous year. Interestingly, consumers seem to be increasingly willing to invest more in these nostalgic ankle adornments, the average spend on accessories of this kind having also increased 108%.

Wider jewelry trends highlighted the rise of chunkier pieces, as Dante-inspired jeweler Alighieri has seen its searches skyrocket in the last three months – hardly surprising with the likes of Camille Charrière, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Aya Jones all having been seen sporting pieces from the brand. And jewelry isn’t the only thing bulking up, chunky sneakers are still very much on the top of their game, outperforming heels in searches three to one.

Lyst’s top picks for apparel are notable for their contrasting aesthetics: on the one hand, flowing wrap dresses, on the other, cycling shorts. The former have been popular throughout the summer period, and Ganni and Stine Goya, Scandi brands specializing in this fluid silhouette, have both seen triple-digit increases in searches year on year. At the same time, sales of cycling shorts, high-profile fans of which include Kim Kardashian West and Bella Hadid, have almost quadrupled in the last three months.

In terms of prints, leopard looks set for a come-back, with leopard-print skirts currently boasting a 30% increase in searches month on month, while tie-dye staples also saw a 47% rise in interest in the same period.

The results of Lyst’s “Fashion Month Forecast: Data Driven Street Style Predictions” report can be consulted in more detail on the platform’s website.
