The brand, described as a ‘contemporary designer’ venture, launched at Selfridges last year. It sells work-appropriate dresses, smart tops and feminine jackets for up to £390.

The new funding was provided by a group of unnamed backers, reported The Daily Mail on Thursday, taking the total invested in Cefinn to £770,000.

Former chairman of Smythson Mark Esiri and Andrew Feldman, who was once chairman of the Conservative Party, are some of the brand's well-connected investors.

According to The Daily Mail, the value of Samantha Cameron’s fashion business has also risen, with shares now priced at £38, £5 more than in past share allocations.

The brand is available at Cefinn.com, Net-a-Porter.com and Selfridges.com, as well as in-store at Selfridges in London, Manchester and Birmingham.

US First Lady Melania Trump was seen wearing a £295 dress emerald green shirt dress from Cefinn’s autumn collection as she visited a drug recovery centre in West Virginia in October.
