Oct 26, 2016

On Tuesday night, the nominees for the 2016 British Fashion Awards were announced. The British Fashion Awards cover a broad scope of categories including Best British Menswear Designer, Best British Emerging Talent, Best British Brand, and Best International Business Leader.

The awards will feature nominees from both Britain and the International community.  For the first time, the ceremony has added new categories such as International Model and International Accessories Designer.

The winners are voted by 1500 key influencers in the fashion industry. The voting body includes key fashion insiders from 41 different countries and many different disciplines including media, retail, communications, photography, art direction, and set design.

“It is a pleasure to support the Fashion Awards, a truly global celebration of creative talent from Britain and beyond which underlines London’s role as a home of innovation in the industry," said Nadja Swarovski, member of the Swarovski executive board and sponsor of the event.

"In addition, we are thrilled to provide opportunities for a new generation of young designers by helping to raise much-needed funds for fashion education”.

The awards cover fifteen different categories, with five nominees for each.

In the category of Best British Womenswear designer, Christopher Kane, Jonathan Anderson, Roksanda Ilincic, and Simone Rocha took nominations for their own lines, and Sarah Burton received a nomination for Alexander McQueen.

For the category of British Menswear Designer, historically one of the biggest awards of the night, Craig Green, Grace Wales Bonner, Jonathan Anderson, Tom Ford, and Dame Vivienne Westwood all received nods for their work on their namesake labels.

In the category of British Emerging Talent, nominees include Alessandra Rich, Charles Jeffrey, Faustine Steinmetz, Molly Goddard, and Self-Portrait.

For the International Accessories category, Alessandro Michele (for Gucci), Anya Hindmarch, Johnny Coca (for Mulberry), Jonathan Anderson (for Loewe), and Stuart Vevers (for Coach) received nominations.

Adrian Joffe (Commes des Garcons & Dover Street Market), Christopher Bailey (Burberry), Guram Gvsalia (Vetements), Marco Bizzarri (Gucci), and Stefano Sassi (Valentino), are all competing for the International Business Leader award.

Adidas, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Off-White, Palace, and Vetements all received nominations for the International Urban Luxury Brand. The Gvsalia brothers have received nominations for three separate awards this year for their work on their much-buzzed label Vetements.

The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony at Royal Albert Hall in London on December 5th, 2016. The awards are being sponsored by Swarovski. Four individuals, who have yet to be named, will also be celebrated at the event for hitting significant career milestones in the fashion industry.
